The Basics
1What exactly is Boudoir Photography?
These days, the term Boudoir Photography gets used incorrectly quite often. Boudoir photography isn’t so much a style of photography, as it is an approach to photography. A woman getting photographed in lingerie or nude does not make it a boudoir shoot, especially when this shoot is with a professional model on a set…that is fashion and glamour photography.
Boudoir shoots extend far beyond women being photographed in their intimate outfits or in the buff. It is a dance between the photographer and the client - the client being a woman who has most-likely never done a photo shoot before, let alone a photo shoot so unquestionably soul baring! This dance involves complete trust, along with professionalism, connection, guidance, psychology, and the courage to try something new. Boudoir photoshoots are all about embracing women, celebrating the goddess within and creating OUR OWN definitions of beauty.
2Do you have your own studio?
I do! My studio is located in the historic Boarding House Arts building downtown Guelph. It's a lovely space with beautiful lighting and is perfectly set-up for Boudoir, Maternity and Portrait photography.
3How long have you been in business?
I opened my studio in 2008 and have photographed thousands of awesome clients over the last 15 years. Every shoot is unique because every person is.
4Step by step, what is the process when I book a shoot with you?
Step 1: Reach out and I'll send over the info kit to you with full package details (pricing starting at $395+hst)
Step 2: Confirm the package you'd like and we pick a date and time and you pay your $100 deposit.
Step 3: I'll send full details on how to prepare, what to bring, outfit suggestions, etc.
Step 4: Shoot day!!!!!! Come into the studio for an uplifting, fun, comfortable, artistic and memorable photo shoot experience.
Step 5: I'll send an invoice for your final balance (which is exactly the package price and any extras you want which you can also decide on later).
Step 6: Gallery is sent to you with over 100+ beautifully unique images. You can look at these in your own home. I DON'T require clients to come into the studio and look through the photos to choose in a high-stress, up-sell heavy environment - that's the worst!!
Step 7: I'll work my magic on your selections and send you a download link for your approval.
Step 8: I'll design and order your fine art album if you've ordered one (zero pressure!).
Step 10: Enjoy your photos and the experience for years to come. ;)
5Are the women in your portfolio models?
The women in my portfolio are just regular clients that have been guided through their shoots with flattering posing direction. Plus never forget the beauty of kick-ass angles and wonderful lighting! Also, many of my clients prefer to keep their photos private for obvious reasons which means you’re not seeing the whole spectrum of amazing different and vibrant women who come in for shoots.
6Privacy is very important to me. Will my photos be kept confidential?
Nude and boudoir photography is an intimate and private affair, and you need to put great trust into your photographer. You can feel 100% confident that if you would like your photos kept strictly confidential and out of my portfolio, your wishes will be followed.
7Do I have to bring my own outfits and accessories?
Yes. Due to hygienic and sizing issues, you’re responsible for bringing anything you’d like to wear in the shoot. Stick to pieces that you feel awesome in; that’s the most important thing. Don't feel confined to lingerie if that's not your vibe. Chunky off-the-shoulder sweaters, knee-high slouchy socks, worn-in denim, your fav sports jersey, tanks, tees, booty shorts, you get the idea. ANYTHING that you want to rock during the shoot works!
8Will my images be retouched?
All of the packages come with expert post-processing and natural air-brushing which means you can, if you so choose, kiss goodbye to blemishes, cellulite, blotchiness, scars, stretch marks, etc. The colours, highlights, shadows and toning and depth will be polished as well.
9How much does a shoot cost?
Enticing and inclusive package options available starting at $395+hst. Please get in contact to request the INFO KIT. Major Perk? No hidden add-ons, sitting fees, pay per image - the package price is what you see, no hidden (sneaky!) fees driving up the cost.
10How far in advance do I have to book?
To get your ideal spot, booking early is best as time slots always fill up very quickly, especially on weekends, before Christmas & Valentine’s Day and in the Spring as the wedding season approaches. If you’re short on time I can typically accommodate some last minute bookings.
11How do I book my shoot?
Please fill out the contact form, send an email or call to get full details on packages and to book your session. Once we’ve settled on a date for your shoot, a $100 non- refundable (but it is transferrable to another date) deposit is due.
12Do you offer professional hair styling and makeup application? Is it necessary?
Firstly, no, it's not necessary to have your hair and makeup done! Many clients do it themselves, it's your call. If you do want to treat yourself, I work with a team of awesome ladies who will work their magic on you. Hair and makeup services in studio can be added to select packages.
13Do you offer photo books and other printing?
A full range of top-of-the-line printing services are available. Expertly handmade in Toronto, high-end lay flat fine art photo books are a jaw dropping way to highlight your photographs. Books are included with some of the packages and can be added on separately as well. I also offer archival quality fine art Giclée Prints perfect for framing, gorgeous Gallery Canvas Wraps, plus modern & minimalistic Metal Photo Panels and Plexi Face Mounts. Please contact me to see samples.
14Can I get digital copes of my photos?
All packages include high-resolution, edited digital JPG files of your chosen photographs.
15Do I get to see all my photos?
You'll be sent a mobile-friendly password protected proofing gallery of all of your best photos from your session. In that gallery you'll be able to choose favourites and easily compile your list for editing.
16Is your studio accesible?
Yes. The building is equipped with handicap parking, automatic doors and the studio is served by an elevator.
The Subleties
1I know I'll be a nervous wreck before my shoot!
Most clients who come in are REALLY nervous to start and it's completely understandable. This is definitely a first time experience for many. Most everyone relaxes within the first little while and goes on to have a lot fun stepping out of the box and rocking their shoot - it's very liberating! When you walk out of the studio after your shoot, you’ll be on a high – it’s an incredible feeling. If the unbelievably nervous and self-conscious women I photographed on “How To Look Good Naked” could do this, so can you. Read through some of the testimonials to get a better sense of how past clients felt.
2Do I need a "perfect" body for a boudoir shoot?
The whole point of boudoir shoots is to celebrate womanhood, and womanhood is perfectly imperfect! So flaunt what your mama gave you and celebrate your unique look. Be empowered and set your own definition of beauty. What are you waiting for?!
3I'm a bigger woman and want to show off my curves. Do you have experience with this?
Yes, yes and more yes! I have extensive experience shooting women with all body types and a high percentage of my clients would consider themselves plus-size. That’s what makes these shoots so awesome, everyone is different, and each woman brings something entirely unique and interesting to her shoot. I’ll always be working with your most flattering angles, amazing lighting, and of course, some natural retouching will help give that extra oomph.
4 I’ve never done anything like this and I'm scared I won't know how to pose and I'll freeze!
From head to toe, I’ll direct and guide you throughout the shoot. I’ll be constantly helping you get into the most flattering poses – you won’t have to worry about a thing!
5Am I too old for a boudoir shoot?!
Hell no! Over the years I've had clients come into the studio from all age ranges - 78 years old is the record so far, but looking to beat it! ;)
